Established in 1989, Education Today is an independent journal distributed to educational professionals and students in 80 per cent of schools and tertiary institutions around New Zealand. Education Today is published six times a year – one issue in Terms 1 and 4, and two issues each in Terms 2 and 3. News and relevant educational material is provided in an exciting and easy to read format.
Education Today offers a forum for students across the country to talk about their education and issues affecting them. Students are encouraged, and shown, how to use journalism techniques (interviews, opinion editorials, photo essays, research, balance) to write for these magazines. Student Voice material is a valued part of our publications. We all need to hear more about how students see their education, what they feel works for them and what doesn’t.
Education Today is working with COMET and education professionals to produce a publication for Auckland called Learning Auckland which ties in with the Learning Auckland accord, Whakakotahitanga te Ara Matauranga. The publication launched in June 2012. There are currently three editions per year filled with stories of how education is making a bigger difference to Auckland. Many of these stories are written by students.
